This is my take on Azura, the main character of ~Illogical-Lynx. I was looking through dA, saw the character, and decided no front on art had been done. I also saw the armour, thought it was too hard, so thats why he is lurking in the muddy water.
The inspiration for the scene is maybe some kind of dark murders in a mangrove, where the water is thick and filled with mud and other weird stuff. I tried to make the scar more disfiguring than it has been shown as at Lynx's request, so I took inspiration from my brothers knuckles where he has some mild keloid scarring ([link]) so, i tried to make it look like the scar had been growing out of the original boundaries. For the fur, I sort of guessed it would be downy, and since he was not straight out of the water, it would have run off so it was not glistening (if a swamp ever could) but the fur was too short for those little peaks you see on wet dogs etc to form. |

I have to say I was flattered beyond words when you drew this for me. You've done a sweet job with texturing and shading the fur and the water. The blood sorta dissolving in the water is a neat effect too.
I see you used the stave/poleaxe thingee from [link] . Azura has gone through a lot of weapon changes over time and that's probably one of my favourites. I like how you've given the blade fixture thing a sorta bronzy look. It suits the weapon really well.
Thanks for the fresh approach to that scar too, it's certainly different to how I've drawn it in the past and certainly a step in the right direction.
As far as critique goes, you've captured his likeness very well. The one thing I might suggest working on if you ever try anything like this again would be perhaps smooth off some of the square edges like up around the ears, perhaps try and make the angles look a tad more organic.
Otherwise, like I said, it totally made my day to get this and I think it's also one of your best pictures yet. Thanks again!

DA says this would-be critic isn't rich enough to be allowed to write proper critique... but I do it anyway.
